Top excuses for not getting the door

I've heard them all...there's always a reason why they don't come down on time to open the door. Sometimes they come down after a few minutes, sometimes they don't come down at all..no matter what you do to get their attention. Here are the steps I, as a professional delivery guy takes to get someone to realize that I have their food downstairs...or that I've arrived.

  1. Ring their door bell and pray it works
  2. Knock really loud on the door
  3. Give them a phone call on my personal cell phone and hope they answer
  4. As a last resort, I'll toot the horn of my car and look up to see if anyone sees me.

What sucks is when all of the above doesn't work and these morons call back 45 minutes later and ask where their food is. Then I have to make a 2nd attempt at delivery. I'm not Fedex or UPS. I do not like to make 2nd or 3rd attempts. Its food. You want delivery and you can't even open the door for me? $%^&*($%##@!

Top excuses when they finally do open the door:

  1. I was in the shower
  2. My door bell doesn't work (why didn't you let us know before hand!!)
  3. I was in the bathroom (doing something other than a shower..ugh!)
  4. I was at the ATM around the corner, I didn't expect you to be here so soon!
  5. I didn't order take out (yes you did. Ask your room mate dip shit!)

If anyone has something to add to this list, please let me know. Theres probably more that I just can't think of, but I'm sure I've heard them all.

This is not really an excuse...We're a small Chinese takeout restaurant and we have times when food is delivered to college campuses. And I've noticed that some students out there would pay any delivery guy they see in sight thinking it's their order. No questions ask. Not even what restaurant he/she is delivering from. They think they’re the only one that would order takeout. And when we can’t make the delivery to them we end up giving them a call and they would end up complaining how we delivered the wrong order to them. Example pizza. A college student doesn't know that Chinese restaurants don’t' sell or make pizzas. A person pouring all their money on tuitions these days and it isn’t making these peeps out there any smarter.

LoL-- your explanations and responses to idiotic customers might very well be the best in the ring of delivery, ever.

I received the comment "UM... I didn't order from you. I ordered from (another pizza place)"

Thanks for all the feedback! Zaui - I love the idea of a Delivery Do's t-shirt! If I ever make them, you'll be the first to get one!

Rachel, I hate it when they act dumb and say they didn't order from our place. These idiots use our menus and call a different place or they use someone else's menu and call our place. Damn them..

Anyways, hope to get some more feedback out there...please post. Remember, be generous! =)
